UNITS

R.A. test (Latex)

1:40

Negative

1:80 - 1:160

Doubtful

1:320

Positive

Anti - streptolysin O titer

Normal= up to 1:128.

Single test usually has little significance. Rise in titer or persistently

elevated titer is significant

C - reactive protein

Negative

Anti - nuclear antibody

One specimen is sufficient, unless the result is inconsistent with

the clinical impression. Most patients with active lupus have high ANA

titers(160 or greater), some have lower titers(20-40). Patien= ts with

inactive lupus, may have a negative test

Antinuclear antibodies are occasionally present in patients w= ith no evidence of systemic lupus, usually in lower titers(20 - 40).<= /span>

Proteus OX - 19 agglutinins

Titers of 1:80 or greater may be significant, particularly if subsequent samples showing rise in titer.

Complement fixation tests

Titers of 1:8 or less are usually not significant. Paired sera showing rise in titer of more than two tubes are usually considered significant.

C3 Test

80 - 140mg./100ml.

C4 Test

11 - 75mg./100ml.
